This is the time of year that we remember that all life dies and all that dies will relive in other forms or in other ways. Sometimes in our hearts and minds and sometimes in the literal sense. Each life we touch is sacred and we must be conscious of how and when we touch that life. We must also be aware of how the other lives in our sphere touch us. Connected while separate. Days pass, and each is longer or shorter, relative to the former or the subsequent. Each magical, each unique, each necessary for the existence of us all.
I recently lost my mother. Now I am the crone. The matriarch of my immediate family. Do we ever feel ready to accept such position and responsibility? Maybe not. But we must. And we do. We pull from the wisdom and strength of the Goddess within each of us and walk into the fire.
For all of you who have experienced the passing of days and of loved ones, and by such, have walked into the role of elder, find peace in the knowledge that the wisdom and gifts given us are always present.
In this world of chaos and war, of famine and blight, of hate and intolerance why should we be thankful? Recently someone inquired of me "If I am so sad, why should I be happy?" Be happy, be thankful, that you know you are sad and relish the opportunity to really feel your feelings. To know them and embrace them. All of your feelings. The ones that make you feel content, the ones that frustrate you and the ones that make you cry. In my profession I see too many people who have shut out their feelings and then live in a world of their own making. A world without true laughter or true tears. A very lonely place. My daughter recently wrote an essay about witchcraft as the search for cause and effect, as a way of understanding (and I believe engaging) our surroundings and ourselves. The natural and the magickal world reminds us each day that life maintains a balance and within that circle one finds both deep sadness and deep joy. This week we in the States celebrate a national holiday of thanksgiving. Let us give thanks for the fullness of life and the opportunity to FEEL all that life has to offer. Blessed Be. ellen

Recently I traveled across country. From California to Mass. My grown daughter and I drove her small, non-airconditioned car through the desert and the plains, over mountain ranges and across bridges, through cities and field of sunflowers, but most importantly, through our fears and tested our limits. How do we ever truly know of our powers, the powers of the earth, of our nature and the universe unless we remove ourselves from the comfortable and well known surroundings and test our faith in ourselves and in the feel of the grass, the heat of the desert, the coolness of the rain, the wonder of the sunflowers bowing to the sun, the sound of the creatures of the night, the power of the waterfall, the gentleness of the breeze and the joy of sharing with a loved one. May each of us have the chance and the leap of faith to take such a journey.
